Terrasvogels arrives in Prague...|
AMSTERDAM (Netherlands) / PRAGUE (Czech Republic) - The Terrasvogels Women Softball Team arrived safely in Prague on Saturday-evening.
In the Czech capital, the reigning Dutch champion will participate in its 28th European Cup-tournament (including both the European Cup and CupWinners Cup) since the event was first staged in 1978.
However, before the team arrived in Prague, the day already had started with a bang.
In the afternoon, some of the players held a practice at their field in Santpoort, including pick-up player Jamie Birk, who had arrived on Thursday-morning.
During a batting practice session, Terrasvogels Head Coach Glen Roff was hit in the face by a batted ball of the bat of Jamie and sustained a broken tooth and a cut in his lip.
It was diagnosed that the New Zealander had no other injuries and so he was able to travel with the team to Prague in the evening.
The team ensembled at Schiphol International Airport around 7:00 PM.
After checking-in and going to the security check, we found ourselves in a small waiting lounge where we couldn't do much more than just waiting, as there was only one tax-free shop in this area.
About an hour later, it was time to board to Boeing 737-700 of Slovakian airline SkyEurope.
After a brief delay, there was much traffic around Schiphol, the plane took off at 9:37 PM (only 17 minutes later than the scheduled time).
It was announced that our flight-time would be one hour and 15 minutes, but after only one hour and one minute, the plane touched down at the international airport of Prague.
And so the waiting began for the luggage, which didn't took that long. Except for one piece of luggage, which was Dagmar Bloeming's and it didn't arrive! Let's hope it comes into Prague tomorrow.
Then, it was on to a Czech 'autobusy', which took us to our hotel in about 45 minutes. And that was long enough to surpass midnight, meaning 'Happy Birthday' could be sung for pitcher Shannah van der Kaaij, who celebrates her 19th birthday on the 31st.
At the hotel, a nice meal awaited us to complete our first day of this European Cup-adventure.
